16th Century Venetian Schiavona

(1) Schiavona sword. Venetian, Circa 1580. Double edge blade with areas of pitting. Iron hilt with basket guard. The guard is composed of flattened bars cut with pairs of ornamental lines at the front, incorporating a thumb ring. Forward curved quillion with a brass Cats head shaped pommel decorated with a high relief concentric stud motif on each face. Rope turned coiled brass grip. Four moon marks on one side and marked xMATUx xUANDx. Total length 39. Total blade length 33. Blade Width (At its widest) 1 ½
